Background Music for Videos

Guide

How to choose background music for a video

A short, practical guide to picking an underlay that supports the cut instead of fighting it.

1. Match energy, not genre labels

If your footage is calm (desk setup, product close-ups), pick a lower-energy bed (Tutorial, Product, Documentary). If you are cutting a montage or Shorts, use Montage or Shorts beds — they score higher on danceability and energy from the audio data.

2. Leave room for voice

Talking-head and tutorials need instrumental beds with mid-low energy. The Product and Tutorial beds exclude the Memories EP and Please Hold Me (the vocal releases).

3. Duck under dialogue

In your editor, keep the music underlay quieter than speech — often −12 to −18 dB relative to voice. The "underlay" metaphor is literal: music is Layer 1.

4. Credit once, clearly

One line in the description is enough. See the Credit page.

5. Prefer full tracks over loops

These are full songs, not 15-second loops. For a 10-minute video, play a bed in order or let the player queue run; for Shorts, one track is usually enough.
